The Program
Wild Salmon Center’s Salmon Vision program works with partners around the NE Pacific Rim to apply cutting edge AI tools in salmon conservation and management. We are seeking highly motivated technicians to support data annotation and review during the 2026 season.
Technicians will be trained to use the Salmon Vision web application for data review and annotation and will provide significant support for data review, both in-season and post-season to produce accurate estimates of returning salmon abundance and support ongoing evaluation and refinement of AI performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Data review using the Salmon Vision web app
- Data summary, visualization and basic analysis for annual reporting
- Monitoring data pipeline, cloud storage, and site functionality using online systems, and working with partners and the SV team to resolve these issues.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates should hold a BSc in natural resource sciences or fisheries, an ability to reliably identify adult salmon species, or a strong interest in learning these skills. A strong ability to work independently and follow through on stated commitments are also a strong requisite for a successful candidate.
- Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to salmon conservation (e.g. biology, fisheries, conservation, environmental science, etc)
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently, managing time, and delivering tasks on schedule.
- Ability to use MS Excel and other Microsoft office tools (e.g. word, powerpoint, etc)
- Access to high-speed internet and a laptop computer.
Specifics of the role
Work can be performed remotely, but with regular in office or online check-ins with the Salmon Vision team. This is a temporary part time role, with four months of work running from June through September. Staff will be required to track their hours and submit weekly timesheets outlining what tasks were performed.
Compensation
Compensation for this temporary position will be $25/hr with part-time employment up to 30 hours per week.
