The proposed Susitna mega-dam would threaten 40,000 acres of prime hunting and recreation wilderness near Denali National Park above the dam, and threaten salmon rearing, migratory, and spawning habitat below the dam. See the scope of the proposed project.
In 2006, the first regional salmon refuge in the world was created within the boundaries of the watersheds of the Kol and Kekhta Rivers in western Kamchatka – the result of successful international cooperation. This is the first comprehensive description of species diversity of aquatic and riparian plants, insects, fish, amphibians, birds, and mammals for a single river in Kamchatka.
