Dan Brack first learned about Wild Salmon Center when he began a new hobby: fly fishing on the beautiful, salmon-rich rivers of Oregon’s north coast. As a fisherman, rafter, and frequent visitor of areas like the Tillamook State Forest, he was drawn by our mission to safeguard some of western Oregon’s healthiest river systems and older-growth forests.
I love coastal Oregon, and the more time I spent out in those rivers and forests, the more I realized how unique these places are.”
“I love coastal Oregon, and the more time I spent out in those rivers and forests, the more I realized how unique these places are,” says Dan. “There’s a lot of pressure on these watersheds—like clear-cutting and water pollution—and I wanted to do my part to protect them by supporting a group like WSC.”
After years of attending events and making personal gifts to our conservation campaigns, Dan took the next step by recommending WSC for a grant through his employer, Lam Research. Lam’s Inspire.Together grant program funds organizations whose efforts inspire their employees and allow them to take part in creating positive change in their communities.
WSC was the proud recipient of an Inspire.Together grant in 2018, supporting our work to safeguard Oregon’s coastal watersheds and the benefits they provide—like habitat for fish and wildlife, outdoor recreation, ecotourism jobs, and clean drinking water for over 400,000 Oregonians. This included WSC’s successful campaign this year to secure State Scenic Waterway designation for over 17 miles of the Nehalem River.
“The Inspire.Together grant program is an opportunity to extend the company’s core values to communities where our employees live and work,” says Christie Valdez, Senior Manager of Community Relations at Lam Research. “We are pleased to support Dan’s community engagement and WSC’s Oregon coast salmon habitat programs.”
With the help of Dan and the Inspire.Together grant, WSC looks forward to ensuring western Oregon’s watersheds—and their wild fish, forests, and rivers—remain healthy and intact for generations to come. Learn more at: lamresearch.com
