Regional Limiting Factors Affecting Salmon Strongholds and Programmatic Approaches to Remediation

The purpose of this document is to briefly describe “multi-state and programmatic initiatives”, which can be supported through funds appropriated under the Pacific Salmon Stronghold Conservation Act. The objective is to ensure a shared understanding of the term “programmatic” among Steering Committee members, who will be responsible for evaluating proposals seeking support for programmatic initiatives.

North Pacific Salmon Fisheries Economic Measurement Estimates

The Wild Salmon Center desired desk level, first order estimates for North Pacific commercial salmon fisheries economic measures. The measures were to include direct effects (fish numbers, volume, and harvest/first wholesale value) and were to include comparable indicators so that the importance of salmon fishing industry could be shown within regional economies. The proportional share of the effects from salmon origin (natural or hatchery) was also of interest.

North American Salmon Stronghold Partnership Harrison Basin Certification Application

In recognition of the Harrison Basin’s fisheries values the Pacific Fisheries Resource Conservation Council, after meeting with the Chehalis Indian Band, determined to pursue and test the Salmon Stronghold concept in the Harrison Basin.
